Bhutan is a conservative country, and it is respectful to dress modestly. For everyday activities, casual, comfortable clothing is fine, but when visiting temples or monasteries, you should wear long pants and cover your shoulders. Bhutanese also have traditional dress—Gho for men and Kira for women—that is worn on special occasions or at government offices and formal events.
Bhutan requires all foreign visitors (except for citizens from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives) to travel through a licensed tour operator. Independent travel is not allowed, and you will need to arrange a fully packaged tour that includes a guide and driver.
